Primary Care Access

Starting in 2025, the qathet Division of Family Practice began measuring access to primary care. 

Measuring healthcare access is difficult because it is affected not only by the availability of services. Access is also impacted by timeliness, quality, and affordability. Other factors include location, socioeconomic status, cultural and language barriers, and the distribution of healthcare resources.

Patient-specific factors, such as health literacy, transportation availability, and personal health beliefs, can further affect access to care.

We considered all of these factors when compiling data and evaluating the results.

We reviewed data from the following sources:  

• Emergency department  
• Ministry of Health 
• Family doctors and nurse practitioners 
• Community, through a community health survey
